QZ Solutions was founded by Zbigniew Kawalec in 2010 as a small IT outsourcing company. With only a few IT specialists on board, we started providing IT services, especially Quality Assurance. We carried out projects in various sectors (transportation, maritime, access control systems, and many others) for clients mainly from the UK and Western Europe.
We received our first official R&D projects (as a subcontractor) in the area of computer vision. This was followed by more R&D projects, also in the field of computer vision, mainly in the medical industry. This was inspiring for the founder in terms of „where we were going and what we wanted to do.”
Zbigniew began to think about the future of the company and fairly quickly concluded that agriculture was the direction for QZ Solutions. At the time it was just an idea without a concrete plan, but he managed to convince key personnel to buy into the idea and get involved.
We decided to transform the company to focus only on the agricultural sector and start making our products/IP. We launched the R&D department, with Krzysztof Smykała, a young doctor, as its leader, and the goal was to start our first own R&D project in the area of computer vision / remote sensing for agriculture.
We scaled back our IT business to include some customers. We then hired other people: agronomists, PhDs, and „business people” and started to explore the world of agriculture. Since then, we have been investing all our money in R&D activities to develop new technologies and products. At that time we decided to focus on hyperspectral data processing and artificial intelligence. These are our main technological directions. We have also formally transformed the company into a limited liability company.
The idea of using hyperspectral images for soil analysis is emerging for the first time. In November 2019, we made the first hyperspectral plane flight to collect images and begin exploring the idea. SoilEO was born.
There was an idea for control systems for weed. In December, we built the first version of the system and acquired a VC.
Harventi Vision was spun off from IP QZ as a separate legal entity with the help of VC.
